Mark V Deep Sea Diving Suit
#160391053
U.S. Navy divers wore the Mark V deep sea diving suit, shown here at the Astoria Maritime Museum, from 1918 right up to the mid 1980s. This suit allowed divers to work at much greater depths than before and was mostly used for deep sea and salvage diving missions. The rubberized-canvas suits protected the diver from cold, contaminated water and when they were working in hazardous environments.
